Categories : Exhibitions, published on : 6/13/23
From September 18, 2018 to January 06, 2019, the Musée d'Orsay presents an exceptional exhibition depicting six crucial years in the life of Pablo Picasso: from 1900 to 1906, know as the "blue and rose" periods.
This exhibition is the first large-scale collaboration between the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée National Picasso-Paris.
And it was necessary to unite these 2 great museums to trace this essential period of the work of Pablo Picasso, which has, so far, never been wholy treated by a French museum.
The exhibition "Picasso. Blue and Rose" bring together and important ant totally new collection of paintings, sculptures, engraving and drawings by the Spanish artist.
Some works, including La Vie (1903, Cleveland Museum of Art), will be presented for the first time in France.
The blue and pink periods , punctuated by blues and joys, were crucial in Picasso's life.
The blue period corresponds to the years 1901-1904. The name comes from the fact that the blue is the dominant hue of his paintings at that time, which began with the suicide of his Catalan friend Carlos Casagemas. It is therefore marked by the themes of old age, death and poverty, but still tinged with satirism.
The pink period, from 1904 to 1906, began with the meeting of his first wife, Fernande Olivier, when he moved to the Bateau-Lavoir in Paris. As before, it is the use of red hues that explains this denomination, and the themes are this time the joy and existential anxiety, always tinged with melancholy, but now dominated by love.
Then you see, this exceptional exhibition is not to be missed!
